Nominate an 'Everyday Hero' for Recognition

The New York State Senate Long Island Republican Delegation kicked off its Lighthouse Initiative to acknowledge the work of everyday heroes during the pandemic on Thursday.

The delegation is looking for nomination of people who have bettered their communities during the difficulties of Covid. 

"The Lighthouse Initiative is part of our continued efforts to recognize acts of kindness, service, and charity by local residents who went above and beyond to help their fellow Long Islanders throughout the Covid-19 pandemic," said Senator Anthony Palumbo of New York's First Senate District.

Those who wish to nominate someone who has been a force for good during the pandemic may do say at https://www.nysenate.gov/questionnaires/anthony-h-palumbo/senator-palumbos-2021-lighthouse-initiative.

"Unsung heroes are the lifeblood of Long Island who serve as shining examples for all of our residents. They are the first to offer a helping hand and are there every single day to help those in need. Like a lighthouse for our residents, they led the way through this past year and I am proud to join with my senate colleagues to show our deep appreciation," said Senator Mario R. Mattera of New York's Second Senate District.

A Call to Rein in Chain Stores in Sag Harbor

Residents of Sag Harbor have come together to denounce what some see as a troubling wave of chain stores. A petition launched by Save Sag Harbor that calls for new legislation to define and limit “formula retail” or “chain establishments” in the village has been signed by over 500 people in the last week.
