Despite prolonged Covid-19 restrictions on in-person gatherings, local bookstores and libraries continue to offer virtual literary experiences for children and adults. East Hampton Village’s BookHampton is among them.

On Saturday at 9 a.m., the bookstore will offer an online story time with Abi Cushman, a celebrated children's author and illustrator. Ms. Cushman will be reading her new book, “Soaked,” filled with uplifting stories of Bear and his three friends, who learn to cope and have fun with bad weather.

Ms. Cushman’s reading of “Soaked” is part of a dedicated children’s reading series on Saturday mornings hosted by BookHampton. Previous Saturdays have featured readings of Ryan T. Higgins’s best-selling “What About Worms!?” as well as “Carl and the Meaning of Life,” a sweet and funny story about finding your place in the world by Deborah Freedman, a Parent's Choice Gold Award winner.

At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, BookHampton will offer a version of a hands-on activity, “Unicorns and Crafts.” Afterward, parents and children are invited to a similarly-themed virtual reading of Lauren DeStefano’s newest book, “The Unicorn Came To Dinner,” illustrated by Gaia Cornwall. This book touches on feelings of anxiety, fear, and self-awareness. Parents can register for each event on the store's website, bookhampton.com.

BookHampton is also open for in-person browsing and buying.
