Police Urge Compliance With PAUSE Order

Fri, 04/03/2020 - 16:52

The East Hampton Town Police Department is getting in touch with businesses that have remained open in spite of a state order intended to slow the spread of Covid-19.

In a Friday afternoon announcement, the department said that its officers, along with personnel from the East Hampton Town Public Safety Division, were responding to complaints from the public about nonessential businesses and keeping an eye out themselves for violations. Businesses listed as essential by the state that were not following social-distance rules have been targeted as well.

In addition to phoning local police, the public can file complaints with the state online at mylicense.custhelp.com/app/ask or by phone, at 833-789-0470, 24 hours a day, police said. Reports can be made anonymously. Employees concerned that their employers might be violating the restrictions can also make a report online with the Department of Labor.

Police explained the need for public compliance with the state PAUSE orders. "Reducing density in public places and reducing work to necessary emergency repairs and essential services will greatly reduce the community spread in the Town of East Hampton."
