A Makeover for Poxabogue Golf Center and Cafe

The Poxabogue Golf Center, which also includes the Fairway restaurant, a popular breakfast spot with locals, is in the midst of renovations, as evidenced by a high chain-link fence surrounding the Sagaponack facility.

The nine-hole golf course and restaurant, which opened in the early 1960s (the driving range came first), was once jointly owned by East Hampton and Southampton Towns, but Southampton bought out East Hampton’s share in 2012 and is now the sole owner. The golf course and restaurant are run by different lessees.

In 2024, the Southampton Town Board allocated $1.8 million for a renovation of the clubhouse and parking area, but according to Derryl Baumer, the assistant town parks director, the ongoing work also includes new siding, doors, and decking. A small addition will create room to reconfigure bathrooms, allowing for Americans With Disabilities Act compliance. A new ramp is to allow such access to the pro shop and restaurant.

The town expects the work to be completed by Memorial Day weekend, but the pro shop should be open well in advance of that.

The Fairway restaurant will now be operated by Michael Carolan, who managed the restaurant under its longtime owner, Dan Murray, who died in December 2024. The town awarded Mr. Carolan his contract in December 2025.

Parking lot improvements will be done closer to the spring, and a septic upgrade is also planned. The restaurant received a water quality improvement project grant through the community preservation fund.
