Cedar Point State Park, the marshes in Napeague State Park, and Beach Hampton will all undergo aerial mosquito larvae treatment sometime between Monday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday afternoon.

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works' Division of Vector Control issued a press release saying that the marshes would be treated by spraying VectoPrime FG and Altosid from low altitude helicopters.

"No precautions are recommended to prepare for this spraying, as the helicopter will be flying at a very low level over marsh areas and taking other precautions to control drift into inhabited areas," the press release read. "Human exposure from this operation is unlikely and the products involved have no significant human toxicity."

Last year, there were 21 reported human cases of West Nile virus in Suffolk County, the most since 2010, when there were 25. According to the New York State Department of Health Statewide Mosquito-Borne Disease Activity Report for Aug. 18, 20 samples of West Nile virus have been pulled from Suffolk County sampling pools in the last week, but there have been zero human cases. For the year, 76 samples have tested positive for the disease in Suffolk County.

Human West Nile virus cases tend to peak in the next month.
