Jeremy Samuelson, the planning director for East Hampton Town since January 2022, is leaving the post for a job in the private sector. He will become the director of human resources at Gurney’s Resort in Montauk.

At a planning board meeting on Aug. 14, Samuel Kramer, the board’s chairman, said of Mr. Samuelson, “I’ve been working closely with Jeremy for two years now, and it’s been a pleasure. Jeremy is a real pro. He knows his planning stuff, he really knows the area well, and his input has always been valuable. The Planning Department has certainly benefited from his tenure. We’re going to miss you.”

Mr. Samuelson said in a statement this week that he is “proud of my work with the department to develop long-range policy around coastal resiliency, affordable housing, support for the business community, wireless communications, and updates to the zoning and building codes. But most of all, I am proud of building a team and a culture where people know they are valued and supported in their work and have the chance to grow. This work has always been about people and serving the community. I am honored to have helped lead this team. I will miss them.”
