Application Period Open for Water Quality Grants

Thu, 01/21/2021 - 09:07

The Town of East Hampton is accepting grant applications for the first round of water quality improvement projects of 2021.

Projects that will protect or improve ground and surface waters may be eligible for funding under the water quality portion of the town's community preservation fund, up to 20 percent of which can be allocated to that purpose. The C.P.F. is funded by a 2 percent real estate transfer tax. Approximately $4.7 million is available for 2021.

Projects are typically wastewater treatment improvement, abatement of pollutants, and aquatic habitat restoration.

A request for applications was issued last week. Applications will be accepted until March 11 at 4 p.m. and will be reviewed and scored by the town's water quality technical advisory committee, which makes recommendations for grant awards to the town board.

The request for applications form is available at ehamptonny.gov/689/Water-Quality-RFA-Grants or by emailing [email protected]. Applications can also be submitted to that address. Those with questions have been asked to call the town's Natural Resources Department at 631-324-0496.

Hemerocallis may be an unfamiliar term, but the garden adjacent to Clinton Academy once bore the name. This photo shows the gate to the garden some two decades after its establishment in 1941.
