The New York State Department of Transportation will repave approximately eight miles of Route 114 between Stephen Hand’s Path in East Hampton and the South Ferry on North Haven, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. and State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle announced Tuesday.

Expected to cost $13.1 million, the project’s design and engineering will be finalized later this year, and the work will take place in 2021. It moved forward with an affirmative vote by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council. The two state lawmakers said in a news release that traffic has continued to increase on Route 114, and it “has taken its toll on the road surface.”

“Senator LaValle and I have long advocated for the repair of N.Y. 114, which is one of the most heavily traveled corridors on the East End of Long Island,” Mr. Thiele said. “Today, I join with the senator in thanking the D.O.T. and N.Y.M.T.C. for the proposal and approval of this vital project. This stretch of Route 114 is in dire need of repair, and I am pleased that this long overdue repaving will move forward to protect the safety of all motorists on the East End.”
