In the Navy
Hankering for a beachfront dinner as the sun sets? Navy Beach in Montauk will return this weekend, offering a 200-foot private sand plot on Fort Pond Bay with outdoor and -- more accommodating in spring -- indoor seating starting at noon on Saturday. The restaurant will continue to offer launch service for mooring yachts in the area beginning Memorial Day.

This year's menu has additional vegetarian options and other items such as teriyaki salmon, longline swordfish, and mushroom pappardelle. New wine, non-alcoholic, and canned cocktail options will be available at the bar.

The restaurant will continue to do good by the Navy Seal foundation through its customers, adding a dollar to each check to support the organization. Guests can add more money to their bill as well. Through this program more than $180,000 has been donated to the organization. The restaurant also sponsors $500 scholarships for high school graduates from Montauk.

Navy Beach will be open on weekends through May and seven days beginning June 16. Reservations are handled through Resy or by calling the restaurant. Walk-ins are welcome but the restaurant recommends checking its website to make sure it is not closed for a private event.

Turkish Treat
Earth has made another rotation around the sun and El Turco will also be back in rotation at the restaurant and club on Three Mile Harbor Road in East Hampton beginning in May. Ylimaz Guney, who grew up in Istanbul, is the returning chef from Miami who will offer a Mediterranean menu via farm-to-table sourcing.

Lamb, served with rice pilaf, cacik, and mixed pickled vegetables or grilled vegetables, is back along with mezes such as plain and roasted beet hummus, grape leaves stuffed with rice and currants, and shredded cucumber, fresh dill, and mint in garlic yogurt. Meatball kebabs, chicken skewers, and fish kebabs are popular and returning entrees.

Reservations can be made through the website. The restaurant will be closed on Sundays, but open other days from 5 to 10 p.m. Live music happens from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

More Than Concessions
Date night is not dead. The Sag Harbor Cinema has a dinner and a movie promotion with several Sag Harbor restaurants through June 15 on Sundays through Thursdays, except for Memorial Day weekend. Ticketholders will receive 15 percent off a meal at Sen (through May 21 only), Lulu Kitchen, and Baron's Cove. Page at 63 Main has a deal where a second entree will be offered at half price.

The cinema has a rooftop bar for pre and post-movie drinks and a green room for snacks and libations. Adding to the interest are a schedule of events such as movie trivia Mondays, an industry night on Tuesdays for local service industry staff (and the in-the-know public), a wine club on Wednesdays, and magic Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by live music from 8 to 10. Thursday musicians include Annie Treza (tonight), Andrew and Andie Fortier next week, and Telly Karoussos and Jon Barton in mid-May.

Catering Shake Up
As of Monday, East Hampton Kitchen and Annie Washburn will run Dreesen's Catering business and its kitchen on Lumber Lane in East Hampton. She will also take over Dreesen's Meals on Wheels operation. Ms. Washburn has purchased the company, but Christina and Rudy DeSanti, who have owned and run Dreesen's for nearly two decades, will support the new enterprise this season to smooth the transition. The all-important Dreesen's Donuts will also continue and can be reached at 631-324-0465 and at the website for doughnut and truck inquiries.

Anyone who wants to volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program should message @ehmealsonwheels on Instagram. Ms. Washburn can be reached directly at [email protected] or 917-941-5919.
