On March 14, a Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montauk transfer station, the first of this year’s four Stop Throwing Out Pollutants, or STOP, days will be held, giving residents a safe way to dispose of nasty trash items.
Old paint, pesticides, fuel, automobile liquids, flammable liquids, and other noxious items can be taken to the transfer station for proper disposal.
“STOP days are an opportunity to not only protect yourself and those in your household, but also your entire community,” East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez said in a release announcing the day. “Proper disposal of hazardous materials prevents dangerous chemicals from entering our groundwater, harming water quality, and damaging our environment.”
The next STOP day at the East Hampton Recycling Center will be on June 13, also from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Questions can be directed to the Sanitation Department at 631-324-7191.
