There’s a first time for everything. First words, first steps, and even a first field trip. Springs School prekindergartners got to experience the latter recently.
The students were learning about habitats, and the first one they studied was a pond, so it only seemed appropriate they would go to Pussy’s Pond, which is near the school. Students saw egrets, ducks, fish, and the beauties of nature. And, because the teachers provided user-friendly cameras to their students, the children were able to photograph what interested them the most.
There are three classes in Pre-K and each of them went to the pond at different times. Meghan Lydon’s class went first. Liana Morales and Beverly McGrath’s classes went together later.
“I feel like it opened up a whole new world for them and they were able to learn in a different environment,” Ms. Lydon said.
When they were asked what they liked about the pond, four students — LuMa, Harper, Jeffery, and Parker — said that they liked all the animals they saw and being with their friends. The teachers also said the field trip contributed to their recent unit about pond habitats, which was the ultimate goal.
