Springs School students participated in Red Ribbon Week recently. This event is a way to remind students of the dangers of drug use and the importance of staying away from them.
Classes created posters to warn about the dangers of drugs and encourage people to avoid bad choices. Debra Murray’s first-grade class took first in the contest. Monique Sullivan’s second-grade class took second place, and Elizabeth Scammel’s and Robert Chittick’s fifth graders took third.
Laura Dunham, a teacher, said that third-place poster really caught her eye. “I think it was the most creative because they thought outside of the box with the theme ‘Life is a Puzzle.’ It was 3-D instead of a flat poster.” The poster featured one large Rubix Cube made out of paper with other little paper Rubix Cubes made by students surrounding the large one.
All week, students were asked to have a little fun with their clothing. On Monday they wore sunglasses to “shade out drugs.” On Tuesday they wore a hat “to put a cap on drugs.” They wore crazy socks on Wednesday to “sock it to drugs.” On Thursday they wore jerseys to “say no to drugs and say yes to sports.” The halls were swimming with red on Friday as students wore red clothing to finish out Red Ribbon Week.
