The Springs School held a pep rally recently to celebrate the middle schoolers’ accomplishments and boost school spirit.
One of the exciting parts of this school event was finding out how many points each grade won by demonstrating one or more of the school’s core values: service, accountability, optimism, and respect (SOAR). The grade with the most SOAR points earned a prize.
This time around, the eighth graders won with over 50 points for having clean and organized lockers, being responsible with their Chromebooks, and showing their core values over all. As a prize, they will have an apple cider and doughnut party.
Sondra Vecchio, a middle school science teacher, is in charge of running the pep rallies and said that she chooses the prizes by getting ideas from teachers and faculty. “The sixth-grade ice cream party was Mr. Kelt’s idea, and for October, I wanted to have a fall-theme prize.”
Another highlight of the pep rally was the chance to celebrate students’ accomplishments. Students nominate their peers for student of the month and each of them gets a certificate. The students of the month from sixth grade were Luis Pinzon Ocampo and Teddy Borsack; for seventh grade, Saorise Quinn and Ailene Inamagua, and for eighth grade, Allison Pedro Chavez and Mason Gonzalez.
