“Confessions,” a program of personal essays by six writers organized by Heather Buchanan, will happen Friday at 6 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Museum’s Nathaniel Rogers House.
“I am thrilled to bring together this incredible group of writers to share their compelling personal stories,” says Buchanan. “On the East End we often focus on visual artists and performers, so it is important to support writers as well, especially as their creative craft is being threatened by A.I.”
Buchanan is an award-winning writer with the accolades of “Best Column” and “Best Humor Column” from both the National Association of Newspaper Columnists and the Press Club of Long Island. She has written extensively for Hamptons Cottages and Gardens, James Lane Post, and Hamptons Real Estate Showcase, among others.
Marilee Foster is a farmer in Sagaponack whose family has farmed there since the late 1700s. She is the author of a memoir, “Dirt Under My Nails: An American Farmer and Her Changing Land” (2002), and has written a weekly column for The Southampton Press since 1995.
Brianna L. Hernández is a Chicano artist, curator, educator, and death doula. She has created multimedia installations focused on end-of-life care, grief, and mourning rituals based on lived experiences, cultural research, and collaborations with peers. She is the director of curation at Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio on the Shinnecock Reservation.
A former film and television producer, Jonathan Shoemaker is the founder of Accabonac Theater Project, which launched in January with “This Is Your Land,” a program of three of his short plays, all set in Springs and performed at Hoie Hall in East Hampton. All of the company’s productions are set on the East End.
Tracey Toomey McQuade, who recently appeared in “This Is Your Land,” says her favorite thing is connecting with others through words, movement, poetry, or music. She helped found the Accabonac Theater Project and directed one of its inaugural productions.
Eli Zuzovsky, who holds a Ph.D. in fine art from Oxford, has been shortlisted for an Israeli Academy Award and selected for the Venice Biennale College, Berlinale Talents Project, the Series Mania Writers Campus, and the London Library Emerging Writers Programme. “Mazeltov,” his debut novel, won the 2025 Einstein Fellowship, which includes living accommodations for six months in Einstein’s garden cottage in Brandenburg, Germany, and an award of 10,000 Euros.
Tickets are $20.
