Album Release Concert
Guild Hall will host the album release concert of “Vow,” a new collection of songs by Gian Carlo Feleppa, a composer, sitarist, and multi-instrumentalist, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Written and developed over several years, “Vow” features some of Mr. Feleppa’s most intimate works to date, exploring the layering of sounds, textures, and instruments influenced by the people and experiences that have shaped his life.
Raised in Amagansett, he received a degree in songwriting and composition from the Berklee College of Music. His practice changed dramatically in 2003, when he bought his first sitar. He accompanies yoga classes on the instrument and performs and teaches multiple instruments and recording techniques at local schools and camps.
The concert is the first complete live performance of “Vow.” Vinyl will be available for purchase after the program. Tickets are $15, $13.50 for members.
Preserving Artifacts
Directors and trustees of the Shelter Island History Museum and Sylvester Manor have reached an agreement to store Sylvester Manor’s most important historical artifacts in the museum’s climate-controlled, fire-proof vault during an anticipated three-year construction and renovation of the Manor House.
The arrangement will safeguard the objects and archival materials, keep them on Shelter Island, and ensure they remain accessible to the manor’s staff for further research during the construction period.
Future exhibitions and programs that highlight the role of Sylvester Manor in Shelter Island’s history will draw from the manor’s collection in temporary storage and the museum’s own archives.
Poetry Grant
The Shelter Island Public Library has announced the fifth annual Bliss Morehead Poetry Grant, which is awarded each April. Applicants for the $1,000 grant must be unpublished poets ages 17 or older who live on the East End (Riverhead and points east).
Bliss Morehead, a Shelter Island resident, was the founder and curator of the Shelter Island Poetry Project, which produced yearly Poetry Month readings at the library. She called upon poets to present poems revolving around themes. This year’s theme is “War and Peace.”
Registration for an application and guidelines is through the library’s website or by email to Sara Garcia at [email protected]. The deadline for entries is March 20. The winner and runners-up will be announced on April 10 and will be invited to a poetry reading at the library on April 30.
Music at the Temple
The Glam Jam returns to Sag Harbor’s Masonic Temple Thursday evening at 7. The headlining band is the Fistys, after which a jam will feature those who sign up for the open mike with up to three songs. Admission is a can of food.
Mind Open, a vibraphone-led instrumental ensemble, will perform at the temple Friday at 8 p.m. A press release promises “a lush, kitschy dreamscape of jazz, exotica, psychedelia, and surf rock, with a signature sound that evokes tiki bars on Mars and retro-futuristic cocktail lounges.”
Tickets are $20.
Insects in Gardens
“Insects in the Garden: Pollinators and Predators,” a free workshop led by Moe Kennedy, the South Fork Natural History Museum’s environmental educator, will happen on Saturday morning from 10 to noon at the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons’ John LoGerfo Library at the Bridgehampton Community House.
The variety of insects that settle among the petals, leaves, and roots in gardens can be problematic for both amateur and experienced gardeners. Mr. Kennedy will discuss the roles of insects and other invertebrates that live in gardens, including pollinators, predators, and pests.
Dance Solo
Lloyd Knight, the lead dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, will perform a new solo in process on Saturday at 5 p.m. at The Church in Sag Harbor. After its creation at The Church it will become the centerpiece of the company’s repertory for 2026, its 100th season.
The show has sold out, but a link to the waiting list can be found on The Church’s website.
