The Neo-Political Cowgirls have charged into the new year with two new arts programs. January Girls, a program for women and girls ages “6 to 106,” launched on Jan. 4 at the Springs Presbyterian Church, and Winter Wanderings, a series of six workshops for women to be held every other Sunday at LTV Studios in Wainscott, will start on Sunday morning at 10:30.

For women 18 and up, participants in the workshops will explore different art forms while opening themselves up to “connection, discovery, and simple joy,” according to the group. There will be writing and sculpting activities; sessions on fabric dyeing and needlepoint; gentle movement elements, and theater games, all led by teachers who are working artists.

“You don’t need to consider yourself ‘creative’ to take this workshop,” said Kate Mueth, the founder and artistic director of the Neo-Political Cowgirls. “You just need to hold a desire to treat yourself well through the winter, to utilize the dark and cold in a way that nurtures and warms so that something new will be ready to bloom when spring arrives.”

“If you’re interested in discovering your creative talent that you didn’t know you had, you should take one of Kate’s workshops,” said Loretta K. Davis, a past Winter Wanderings participant who serves as donor and community engagement director for Project Most. “I had the opportunity to do that at a time when we weren’t really connecting with people, and it was joyful and playful. I was surprised at what I could learn and create.”

The cost is $350 for the full six sessions, $275 for four. Registration is through the Cowgirls’ website.

The Neo-Political Cowgirls is a not-for-profit dance theater company dedicated to exploring, celebrating, and amplifying the human voice.
