Enjoying the Winter Garden

Mon, 12/30/2024 - 14:20

The next round-table discussion of the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons, set for Saturday from 10 until noon, will be about deriving pleasure from gardens during the winter months.

Among the topics to be discussed are how evergreen and semi-evergreen trees and shrubs create the “bones” of a garden, especially in winter; winter flowering plants; deciduous trees with outstanding canopies; colorful branches, such as particular varieties of dogwood and maple; deer-resistant plants for the winter garden; heated bird baths; hardy garden ornaments and planted containers, and indoor plants such as Christmas cactus, amaryllis, and others.

Attendees have been invited to share ideas, as well as cuttings of their own favorite plants. Free to all, the discussion will be moderated by Pamela Harwood at the Bridgehampton Community House.
