New at Tripoli
Wainscott's Tripoli Gallery has brought in the work of Jonathan Beer for a show called "Pictures of the Floating World."

With references to popular culture such as LCD Soundsystem and the dog in the "This Is Fine" meme, Mr. Beer balances his work visually with a painting style he likens to undulations, based on the movement of waves. His work has both abstract and more recognizable elements, with a sense of flow or energy. World events and even artificial intelligence also combine in the mix of references.

An opening reception will take place on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will remain on display through May 1.

Elizabeth Hazan's oil on linen painting "Potato Field/Dusk" will be exhibited in Madoo's summer studio beginning Saturday.

Hazan's Sundown
Elizabeth Hazan will be the featured artist in the Madoo Conservancy summer studio gallery beginning Saturday with an exhibition called "Sundown."

A New York City resident who spent much of her childhood in Water Mill, Ms. Hazan's painting style toggles between naturalism and the abstract. Her canvases are informed by open fields and open sea as well as the Abstract Expressionism associated with this area. According to Madoo, in her work "time and space are collapsed into a heightened version of nature truer to experience, both internal and external. Imagery is a mixture of invention and recollection."

The show will continue at the Sagaponack garden and art space through May 6. An opening reception will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The gallery will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment.

Montauk's Art Colony
The Montauk Artists' Association was started as an effort to bring to all artists, both professional and amateur, an outlet where they could enjoy group art activities, receive art instruction, and show their work.

In 1998, the association established the Depot Art Gallery and Art School at the Long Island Rail Road's Montauk station. "Then and Now: A Brief History of Montauk's LIRR Depot Area and the Montauk Artists' Association," a slide presentation by Tom Carroll, will take place at the Montauk Library on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Other speakers will include the association members Rosa Hanna Scott, Donna Corvi, John Papaleo, Jim Levinson, and Teresa Lawle; the board member Jane Bimson, and Chris Lucore, an artist and gallery owner.

An exhibition of artwork by association members will be on view in the library's Gosman Community Room starting on Saturday.

Exhibition Tour
Paton Miller, an artist and the curator of "East End Collected7" at the Southampton Arts Center, will lead a tour of the exhibition on Saturday at 11 a.m., highlighting the works of specific artists to illuminate the themes and ideas addressed by the show.

North Fork Painters
"3 Perspectives: People, Places, Spaces," an exhibition of paintings by three North Fork artists, is at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor through April 30.

In her paintings, Marla Milne seeks to capture the quality of light and the landscape on the North Fork. Laura Stroh, who has taught at the East End Arts School in Riverhead, renders the natural world in an impressionistic, vaguely abstract style. Dahlia Gorman's oil paintings reflect her interest in the human figure in a variety of settings and activities.

Ross School Artists
"Students and Mentors: Artists of the Ross School" is at MM Fine Art in Southampton through April 8. In addition to work by students from pre-K through grade 12, the show includes works by the faculty members Daniel Donovan, Chris Engel, Alexis Martino, Jon Mulhern, Ned Smyth, Katie Wiebicke, and Sherry Williams.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
