Andras Szanto will discuss the future of museums as part of the Parrish Art Museum’s virtual Friday Nights Live! series.

Museums: What's Next?
As the coronavirus was shutting down museums worldwide, Andras Szanto, a writer on cultural strategy and an advisor to museums, foundations, and educational institutions, conducted interviews with 28 directors of international museums. Mr. Szanto will discuss his recently published book, “The Future of the Museum: 28 Dialogues,” with Corinne Erni, the Parrish Art Museum’s senior curator, tomorrow at 5 p.m. in a live-stream talk.

Each conversation in the book addresses a specific topic relevant to art museums as they face an accelerated phase of reappraisal and reinvention. The result is a portrait of a generation of museum leaders working to make their institutions more open, democratic, inclusive, experimental, and responsive to the needs of their visitors and communities.

A link to the program is on the museum’s website.

Bay Street Honored
Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor has been named a finalist for the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation Arts and Culture Award as part of the annual Long Island Imagine Awards, which acknowledge some of the region’s most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations. The awards ceremony, usually a live celebration, will take place virtually on April 27.

Approximately 150 entries were submitted for consideration in five categories: innovation, leadership excellence, rising star, social impact, and arts and culture. Bay Street is one of four finalists in the arts and culture category. Each winner receives an award of $5,000.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
