New Smokin’ Hours

Culinary Invention

Daniel Starr-Tambor, a 1996 graduate of East Hampton High School, recently launched Tap Drops, a line of liquid mineral concentrates designed to help home cooks make authentic food from different parts of the world. When added to purified water, Tap Drops will replicate the mineral elements of the waters of Rome, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, and Vienna, said Mr. Starr-Tambor.

Cooks, therefore, will be able to make authentically Italian espresso, Parisian baguettes, English crumpets, New York bagels, and so on. The products were introduced at the Specialty Food Association’s Fancy Food Show held in New York this week. They come in two-ounce dropper bottles (enough to make 60 cups of water) and cost $12.99 each, except for the New York version, which is $24.99 and consists of three concentrates. The products are available through the company’s website.

Barbecue at Surf Lodge

Holy Ground, a barbecue restaurant in Tribeca, will hold an Independence Day pop-up barbecue at the Surf Lodge in Montauk Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. For $25 a plate, guests will have a choice of one entree such as brisket or spare ribs, and one side dish.
