A few hundred lucky subscribers to SiriusXM satellite radio will be treated to a concert by Metallica, one of the biggest bands in the world and one described as the definitive heavy metal band, when the broadcaster holds its annual concert at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on Aug. 28.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, Metallica released two albums on an independent label before signing to Elektra Records and issuing its breakthrough, “Master of Puppets,” in 1986. The group has released some 20 albums including “. . . And Justice for All,” “St. Anger,” and “Hardwired . . . to Self-Destruct.” Metallica has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, and has also endured the death of its bassist, Cliff Burton, who was killed when the band’s tour bus crashed in Sweden in 1986.

The concert is in conjunction with the Aug. 29 launch of Maximum Metallica, a new year-round music channel on SiriusXM. Lars Ulrich, the band’s drummer, made the announcement with Howard Stern live on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” yesterday. The performance will premiere on Sept. 1 at noon and be rebroadcast throughout the week on Maximum Metallica, Channel 42. It will also air on the Howard 101 channel on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.

The SiriusXM concerts at the Talkhouse have featured artists including Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile, the Killers, Mumford & Sons, Dave Matthews, and, last year, the country and crossover artist Jelly Roll. A number of celebrities are usually in attendance under the tent behind the live-music venue, where the concert is typically held.
