The New York State Broadcasters Association has announced its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, with its president, David Donovan, praising the class as setting the “gold standard” for New York broadcasting. Among the six honorees are Sag Harbor’s own radio legends Bill Evans and Gary Sapiane, both of WLNG 92.1 FM.

Mr. Evans, the co-owner, program director, and meteorologist at WLNG, is a 20-time Emmy winner and a New York Times best-selling author. A recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for Distinguished Public Service, Mr. Evans also had a 30-year career as the senior meteorologist for WABC-TV, WPLJ Radio 95.5 FM, and 77 WABC AM Radio. Beyond broadcasting, he has performed on Broadway and in comedy shows.

Mr. Sapiane, WLNG’s general manager and morning host, began his career in high school at WAPC Radio in Riverhead. A longtime D.J. at WLNG, he became station manager in 2008 and was named president of Main Street Broadcasting in 2012. He also has a passion for storm chasing and aviation.

The Sag Harbor duo will be honored at a broadcasters association gala later this year.
