Southampton Site Continues Testing

Suffolk County has taken over funding for a Covid-19 testing facility in Southampton Village, ensuring that it will offer free testing as long as needed. The Hamptons Health Society raised enough money to set up the site at the Kraus Family Health Center, adjacent to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and run it through May. It has been open since April 10.

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman worked with County Legislator Bridget Fleming and County Executive Steve Bellone on gaining the county’s funding for it to continue. The site is operated by HRHCare and offers free testing to any uninsured resident in need of financial assistance. It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 845-553-8030.

New Telehealth Offerings

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology through telehealth visits. The visits provide two-way interactions between patients, caregivers, and rehabilitation therapists for consultations and diagnosis. The platform keeps patients safe during the pandemic while providing needed rehabilitation.

The hospital’s rehabilitation department can be called at 631-726-8520 for an appointment. Telehealth sessions are covered by Medicare and most insurance providers.

Emergency Services

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s emergency department has continued to treat all emergency patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Those with critical non-Covid conditions should seek immediate treatment. Those demonstrating Covid-19 symptoms are isolated from the general population, and all staff wear personal protection equipment.

The hospital has resumed scheduling elective surgeries, which will begin again in June. They were suspended during the shutdown to ensure there were enough beds for coronavirus patients.

According to the hospital, there has been no known case of a patient contracting Covid-19 while visiting the facility, which uses a rigorous protocol, including UV lights and Environmental Protection Agency-approved disinfectants.
