The Suffolk County Republican Party has endorsed Nick LaLota, chief of staff of the County Legislature’s presiding officer and a former commissioner at the Suffolk Board of Elections, as its nominee to represent New York’s First Congressional District in Washington, D.C. The move, coming right on the heels of Mr. LaLota’s announcing his candidacy, drew a rebuke from another contestant for the seat.

Representative Lee Zeldin of New York’s First Congressional District was named the Republican candidate for governor of New York at the State Republican Party’s convention, held in Garden City on Monday and Tuesday.

In the race for the Democratic Party’s nomination to represent New York’s First Congressional District, Suffolk County Legislators Bridget Fleming and Kara Hahn have each picked up new endorsements.

With control of the United States House of Representatives potentially hanging in the balance, the New York State Legislature voted last week to redraw the state’s congressional districts in a way that makes a Democratic gain of three seats more likely.

Robert M. Cornicelli, a veteran and advocate for veterans and the developmentally disabled who is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination to represent New York’s First Congressional district, has announced that retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, a former national security adviser to President Trump, has endorsed his candidacy.

Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn has announced that she raised more than $200,000 in the third quarter for her campaign for the Democratic Party’s nomination to represent New York’s First Congressional District.

Ms. Hahn’s fund-raising total “was overwhelmingly fueled by individual grassroots donors giving $100 or less,” according to a statement from her campaign, with a majority of contributions from donors living in the congressional district. She has now raised more than $450,000, according to the campaign.

In the primary race for the Democratic nomination for the First Congressional District seat, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. has endorsed Bridget Fleming, one of two Suffolk County legislators in the running.

Representative Lee Zeldin of New York's First Congressional District, who is seeking the Republican Party's nomination for governor of New York, disclosed on Saturday that has been treated for chronic myeloid leukemia. 

The race to succeed Representative Lee Zeldin in New York's First Congressional District has become a crowded one, with two new Democratic candidates and the first declared Republican to throw his hat into the ring.

Lee Zeldin, eastern Long Island's four-term representative in Congress, has begun his New York gubernatorial campaign strong, raising over $4 million in all, with over a third of the total coming from out-of-state donors.
