Ryleigh O’Donnell, an East Hampton High school senior who competes with the girls indoor track team, set yet another record in Sunday’s crossover meet at Suffolk Community College-Brentwood, winning the 1,000-meter race in 3 minutes and 5.16 seconds, eclipsing the 3:06.1 that Dana Cebulski ran in 2013.

It was the third indoor mark that O’Donnell has achieved this season: She set the school’s standard for the 800, and, with Greylynn Guyer, Dylan Cashin, and Sara O’Brien, broke the school record in the 4-by-800 relay at the recent Ocean Breeze invitational on Staten Island.

Guyer finished fourth in Sunday’s 1,000, in a personal-best 3:21.48.

In other events that day, Cashin placed second in the 3,000, and the 4-by-400 relay team of Guyer, Melina Sarlo, O’Brien, and O’Donnell was a runner-up, as was the 4-by-800 team of Bennett Greene, Briana Torres, Laura Martinez, and Cashin.

Sarlo, moreover, finished fourth in the shot-put, with a heave of 29 feet 3 inches, and the 4-by-200 relay team of Shirley Jiang, Lily Remy, Sophia Figueroa, and Sam Ruano finished seventh.

Among the P.R.s that day was Ruano’s hop, skip, and leap of 28 feet 8 1/2 inches in the triple jump.

The Swimming Report

East Hampton’s boys swimming team had an easy time of it at Lindenhurst Friday, facing competition in only three of the 12 events.

“Lindenhurst has a very small roster and also was missing some guys,” Craig Brierley, Bonac’s coach, said, adding that to make things more interesting “we challenged our boys by taking them out of their comfort zones and putting them in events they weren’t used to competing in. It was fun to watch them rise to the occasion.”

There were some best times, nevertheless, namely Wyatt Smith’s 2:26.47 in the 200 freestyle, Nick Chavez’s 26.36 in the 50 free, Owen Robins’s 1:05.67 in the 100 butterfly, Tony Pillajo’s 43.60 in the 50 free, Ben O’Sullivan’s 1:13.42 in the 100 backstroke, and Ise Haney’s 1:31.12 in the 100 free.

And the winners were: the 200-yard medley relay team of Ben O’Sullivan, Ryan Zeb, Sam Piver, and Pillajo; Smith in the 200 freestyle; Ben O’Sullivan in the 200 individual medley; Chavez in the 50 free; Robins in the 100 butterfly; Chavez in the 100 free; Cristian Sigua in the 500 free; the 200 free relay team of Liam Knight, Robins, Jack O’Sullivan, and Chavez; Ben O’Sullivan in the 100 backstroke; Knight in the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay team of Jack O’Sullivan, Robins, Chavez, and Emmet McCormac.

Pillajo, a freshman new to the sport, was named by the captains as East Hampton’s swimmer of the meet. Brierley said of him, “He’s been very consistent in practice, even through the holiday break, and that dedication has resulted in large gains in skills and fitness for him. He competed in three events at the Lindenhurst meet, the most he’s done to date, and earned a best time in the 50 free.”
