Swerving Over the White Line

Thu, 08/14/2025 - 09:31

Fabien Israel Cujilema Asoma, 34, faces two felony drunken-driving charges following his arrest on the night of Aug. 3.

Just before 10 p.m., town police reported, on Springs-Fireplace Road in East Hampton, they saw him at the wheel of a 2009 Acura swerving back and forth over the solid white line at a speed of 55 miles per hour in a 40-m.p.h. zone. He was pulled over near the intersection of Abraham's Path, and allegedly showed multiple indicators of intoxication. He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests and to an alcohol-measuring breath test, and reportedly performed poorly on all of them.

The misdemeanor D.W.I. charges were later elevated to felonies after he was found to have been convicted of the same offense in 2023. East Hampton Justice David Filer arraigned him the following morning and released him on his own recognizance to await a future date in Justice Court.
