Search for Missing Boater Continues in Montauk

East Hampton Town Police and Marine Patrol continued the search on Monday for a boater who went missing in Fort Pond in Montauk on Sunday evening around sunset.

"The man entered the water from a rowboat and failed to surface," East Hampton Town police said in a release on Monday afternoon. Witnesses on Sunday said four people had been aboard the boat. Police have not yet released the name of the missing man, a 42-year-old from Manhattan.

East Hampton Town Police and Marine Patrol searched the pond with the Montauk and Sag Harbor Fire Departments, and members of East Hampton Ocean Rescue until about 9:45 Sunday night.

The search resumed Monday morning with the town police dive team, a drone unit from the Suffolk County Sherriff's Office, and the Suffolk County police aviation unit.
