Deer in the Headlights

Thu, 11/12/2020 - 09:03

Late afternoon and evening continue to be dangerous times for both drivers and deer. There were eight collisions between them, mostly on Montauk Highway, last week.

Town police reported two accidents at 5 p.m., one in Wainscott, at the Wainscott Stone Road intersection with Montauk Highway on Nov. 2, and the other on Saturday in Amagansett, on Bluff Road near the highway. Two others occurred around 11 p.m., one on Sagg Road near Merchants Path in Sagaponack on Nov. 2 and the other in Montauk at the intersection of East Flamingo Avenue and Kirk Avenue on Sunday.

Another car on Nov. 2 met a deer at 7 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Amagansett near Bunker Hill Road. There were two car-deer meetings at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3, both on the highway, one near Maple Lane in East Hampton and the other near Daniels Hole Road in East Hampton. Another reported deer-car accident happened Nov. 4 on Main Street in East Hampton Village at 1 in the afternoon.

It Was S.U.V. on S.U.V.

On June 23, a Subaru S.U.V. rear-ended a Toyota S.U.V. at Carl Fisher Plaza in Montauk. That evening, two other S.U.V.s collided in Wainscott and had to be towed away. And more news of the roads.
