Lost in Springs Then Jailed

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:37

A Yaphank woman who got lost in Springs with a friend early Saturday morning has been in county jail ever since, either because she is unable to meet the $500 bail set for her in East Hampton Town Justice Court, or because of an unrelated matter in Suffolk County District Court.

Jillian Eileen Greener, 25, was the passenger in a 2014 Lexus being driven by Geraldine Faustin of West Babylon. It was a little after midnight on Friday when a town officer reported seeing the Lexus and the two women outside some cottages at the entrance to East Hampton Point on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road. “They were lost and had been trying to find a friend,” the officer wrote in her report. It appears that the women may have been looking for an address on Three Mile Harbor Road farther to the south.

Ms. Greener allegedly told the officer her name was Samantha, and that she did not have any identification. She was warned that if she was lying she would be charged with false personation. She repeated her claim, police said, before telling the officer, “I lied to you because I was nervous and I think I have a warrant.”

The officer subsequently learned that there was indeed an active warrant out of Suffolk County for her arrest.

When Ms. Greener produced her New York State identification card, the officer noticed several brass pipe screens in her wallet, the report says. Ms. Greener then admitted to having three crack pipes concealed in her bra. The pipes had residue on them that later tested positive for crack cocaine, police said.

After she was placed under arrest, police searched the car as well as the driver, but no drugs were found. Ms. Faustin, who was not charged with any crime, had on her person $1,500 in $50 and $100 bills.

Carl Irace, who was representing Ms. Greener only for her arraignment Saturday morning, told Justice Steven Tekulsky that she said she thought she could call a friend and be able to post $500 bail. Justice Tekulsky agreed to that amount and told her that the police would allow her to make whatever phone calls she needed to. “They will do all they can to help you post bail,” he said to her.

After several hours at police headquarters in Wainscott, however, she was turned over to Suffolk County sheriffs, who took her to the county jail in Riverside, where she remained as of yesterday.

She is due back in East Hampton Town Justice Court this morning.

Drivers, Cyclist Were Hurt

Four people were assessed by responders from the Montauk Fire Department, but declined further treatment, after they were struck by a woman trying to park her Honda sedan near the Montauk Brewing Company. Also in Montauk, a Volvo S.U.V. struck an e-bike on Main Street, resulting in injuries to the 13-year-old bicyclist.
