Arguments Out of Hand

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:33

An Amagansett man was charged with menacing with a shotgun following an argument on Saturday evening.

Barry J. Bistrian, 54, was at his Abram’s Landing Road residence when, at about 6:20 p.m., a verbal altercation with his stepson, Ryan Aldridge, 26, occurred. East Hampton Town police said Mr. Bistrian walked toward the younger man holding a 12-gauge camouflaged shotgun. He was arrested about half an hour later.

At police headquarters in Wainscott at about 7:15 p.m., police allegedly found Mr. Bistrian in possession of a pill and half a pill stamped “IP 109,” later identified as hydrocodone. He was charged with menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, a violation. Town Justice Rana released him the next morning on his own recognizance.

Another domestic dispute Saturday evening led to the arrest of Mortimer A. Rubin of Springs. The 35-year-old allegedly shoved Christie M. Polz, his girlfriend, into a doorway and closed the door on her, causing chest pain and finger pain. He then took her cellphone from her hand, preventing her from calling police. It happened at about 9:30 p.m. at their Sherwood Lane house, according to the report.

Mr. Rubin was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and harassment in the second degree, a violation. He was arraigned on Sunday; Justice Rana ordered him held on $2,500 cash or $15,000 bond.

In Sag Harbor, a 23-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday at about 1:10 a.m. following an alleged domestic dispute at her Madison Street residence. Lydia Florio reportedly grabbed the phone and threw it to the ground when her mother attempted to call police after Ms. Florio became belligerent, a police report said. The report said she had grabbed her mother by both wrists.

Police charged her with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and harassment in the second degree, a violation. She was released on her own recognizance.

“I do expect the charges to be dismissed in the near future,” her attorney, Brian DeSesa, said yesterday.

In other arrests this week, Heather J. LaMonda, 38, of Shirley was charged with petty larceny. On Sept. 5, town police said, she took a bicycle belonging to James Garnett from a house at 121 Merchants Path in Wainscott. The bicycle was valued at under $250.

A detective released her on her own recognizance. She is due to appear in court on Nov. 15.
