Caroline S. Dickerson

Sept. 11, 1957 - Sept. 11, 2026

Caroline Suzanne Dickerson "truly enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved reading books (especially James Patterson novels), dabbled in amateur photography, and enjoyed planting flowers each spring," her family wrote. She "also took special interest in the weather, particularly when it came to coastal storms."

Her favorite thing to do was spend time with family and she loved nothing more than gathering with them at the beach to share stories and go swimming.

Ms. Dickerson, a lifelong resident of East Hampton Town, died on Sept. 11 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. She was 69 and had lung cancer for six years.

Born at Southampton Hospital on Sept. 11, 1957, to Robert F. Dickerson and the former Miriam Conklin of Amagansett, she attended school there and graduated from East Hampton High School in 1975.

She went right to work after high school, beginning a career in banking that would span 30 years. She was a fixture at the Bank of New York in Montauk and later at Suffolk County National Bank. "Her amiable nature and down-to-earth personality enabled her to become a trusted member of the Montauk community," her family said. She retired in 2018 but continued to work as a part-time sales associate at HomeGoods in Wainscott.

She is survived by two sons, Christopher Russell of Saco, Me., and Alexander Martinez of Shoreham, and a daughter, Emily Martinez of Montauk. Also surviving are her sisters: Michelle Engstrom of Montauk, Priscilla Jones of Amagansett, Lisa Narizzano of Springs, and Jennifer Garbowski of Exmore, Va. A brother, Michael Dickerson, predeceased her.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Her family shared their gratitude for the "love, kindness, and support" she received during her illness from the medical team at the Phillips Family Cancer Center in Southampton and the professionals at the Kanas Center. They suggested donations in her memory to East End Hospice and the Kanas Center for Hospice Care, online at eeh.org.
