Sept. 29, 1926 - Sept. 24, 2025

Jean P. Parmelee had traveled the world as a flight attendant with United Airlines in her younger years, but “despite her numerous adventures, she was devoted to her home on Gardiner’s Bay in the community of Lion Head Beach” in Springs, her friend Joann Dittmer wrote. She spent many years there and appreciated “the serenity and beauty of the area.”

Nature and conservation were lifelong interests for Ms. Parmelee, who died under hospice care at home on Sept. 24 at the age of 98.

She is survived by two nephews and her longtime friend, Ms. Dittmer.

Ms. Parmelee was born in Pennsylvania on Sept. 29, 1926, to Harry Parmelee and the former Pearl Whippo. She grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from high school there.

She was buried at Green River Cemetery in Springs and will be commemorated in a ceremony in the spring.

Ms. Dittmer suggested memorial contributions to any animal sanctuary, particularly one for elephants.
