Thu, 12/19/2024 - 13:38

Paid Notice: Geoff Jenkins of East Hampton, N.Y., died at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue, NY, on December 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Geoffrey Tyrrell Jenkins was born in San Francisco, CA, to Sybil Tyrrell Patten and John Oliver Jenkins on January 19, 1968.

Geoff attended the French American School, in San Francisco, CA, Asheville School, in Asheville, NC for high school; graduated in 1986, and Tulane University, in New Orleans, LA.; graduated with a degree in both political science and theater/drama in 1990.

Geoff ’s joy of theater encouraged him to produce and direct his own children’s theater productions in New York City, as well as write and self-publish a book for newcomers to New York City. Geoff ’s love for humanity encouraged him to create the Jesters Guild, an organization which restaurants would offer happy hours in exchange for donations to NYC charities. And last but no means least, Geoff was a skier enthusiast, and adored skiing in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Most of all, Geoff cherished his lovely wife, Andra, and his 7-year-old son, Caspar. Geoff and Andra were married in August 2013, in a private ceremony in New York City. “Together with Andra, Geoff enjoyed the simple pleasure of raising his son and seeing the joys of the world through his eyes,” his family wrote. “In the summers, his greatest pleasure was going to the beach with his family, listening to live music and watching the sunset while visiting with friends.”

He stayed connected with all his friends, and he treasured his weekly zoom calls with the Blues Finest. “Geoff’s legacy of humor, love, loyalty and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him,” his family wrote. “He taught each of us to cherish the simple pleasures in life and the importance of fostering friendships through shared experiences.”

Geoff had a reputation for touching the lives of others in positive and lasting ways, those of his family and friends to the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his cancer treatment.

He was such a magnanimous person, his family said, that even as he was struggling with his illness, he formed a cancer support group at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton.

At the time of his death, he was the owner of Hyde Park Laundry in Niagara Falls, NY, which he constructed from the foundation. His love of life, adventures and careers took him to Aspen, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City, and lastly, his favorite place, East Hampton, NY.

He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Fred Patten. He is survived by his wife, Andra Davis Jenkins, and son, Caspar Davis Jenkins; by his mother, Sybil Tyrrell Patten of Shreveport, LA., his father, John Oliver Jenkins, (Susan) of Belvedere, CA; brother, Oliver G. Jenkins, (Anne), nephew Arthur, niece, Frances, Shreveport, LA., and by many extended family members who “will continue to honor his legacy by living as he would have liked, with humor and grace.”

A celebration of his life will take place at noon on January 11, 2025, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton, NY, with the Rev. Ben Shambaugh presiding. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Fighting Chance, a Sag Harbor-based cancer support organization, fightingchance.org.

Deep History in Sag Harbor Headstones’ Restoration

While Captain Beebee’s headstone now sits pristine atop the hill next to the Old Whalers Church, the rest of the family’s six plots sit in disrepair. Recently, however, the museum received a $10,000 grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, which will allow for the restoration of the remaining headstones.
