Aug. 6, 2003 - Oct. 6, 2024

Christian Gutierrez “lived his entire 21 years in the most wonderful way,” his family wrote. “He never held back from doing what he loved — spending time with family, cherishing his friends, and riding his motorcycle.”

Mr. Gutierrez, an East Hampton High School graduate who grew up in Springs, died in a motorcycle accident in Riverhead on Oct. 6.

He loved working on cars and motorcycles from a young age, and “had a large riding community that will miss him dearly,” his family said.

Born in Southampton on Aug. 6, 2003, Mr. Gutierrez was the son of Ruperto Gutierrez and Liz Sigcha.

After graduating from high school, he completed one year at Suffolk County Community College. He worked as a traffic control officer for the East Hampton Town Police Department and as a plumber for his father’s company, RE Plumbing and Heating.

His family described him as “a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend,” and as an “old soul.” He was “humble,” said his sister Jessica Gutierrez, and got along with everyone. “Those who had the pleasure of sharing even a single moment with him knew how contagious his beautiful smile and two dimples were. He never said no to lending a helping hand, making it easy for others to say yes when he asked for anything,” his family said.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Jessica Gutierrez and Tamara Gutierrez, both of Springs.

A service was held on Oct. 11 at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. He was buried at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in East Hampton.

Another Iconic House at Risk of Demolition

Julian and Barbara Neski’s 1964 Chalif House on Terbell Lane in East Hampton has recently come on the market for $11 million-plus. The house is historically important, but given the times, the value of a one-acre plot, and its location in the village’s estate section, it’s likely to be torn down.
