"Early detection is key to long-term survival rates" of prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American men, according to Stony Brook Medicine's department of urology and the Stony Brook Cancer Center. The two entities are co-hosting free prostate cancer screenings on Thursday at Stony Brook's Riverhead urology center at 74 Commerce Drive.

Stony Brook urges men between 45 and 75, as well as Black men and those with a family history of prostate cancer, to get screened. This type of cancer often has no symptoms, so screenings are important tools to protect men's health, Stony Brook said in an announcement.

The service is offered for free, with no insurance required. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling 631-216-9181. Additional information on prostate cancer can be found via Stony Brook Medicine at this link.
