Boater Safety Rules Change

Thu, 01/30/2020 - 14:24

New York State is gradually phasing in a boating safety rule that will require all powerboat operators to have a certificate by Jan. 1, 2025. For this season, any boater born in 1993 or later will have to have one.

The East Hampton Library will hold a four-session class beginning on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and continuing next Thursday and Feb. 11 and 13. Attendance at all four meetings of the class is mandatory in order to get the certificate. Registration is with the reference desk staff or via an eventbite.com link on the library’s website.

By 2023, anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1983, will need to have taken the class; in 2024, the cutoff date will be Jan. 1, 1978.
