While Election Day is still nearly three weeks away, there are several important deadlines coming up in New York.

Mail-in voter registration forms, which are available at libraries, town and village halls, and post offices, must be received by the Suffolk County Board of Elections by Saturday, Oct. 26; the latest they can be postmarked is Monday, Oct. 21.

The Suffolk County Board of Elections office in Yaphank and the Department of Motor Vehicles in Riverhead are the places to register to vote in person. However, registration can also be done online through their respective websites. According to vote.org registration, either in person or online, Oct. 26 is the deadline to register.

For those planning to vote by absentee ballot, time is running out to apply for one. Online and mail-in applications for absentee ballots must be received by the Board of Elections by Monday, as well. Absentee ballot applications can be delivered in person to the Board of Elections in Yaphank as late as Nov. 4 in advance of the Nov. 5 election.

Once absentee ballots are acquired, voter can mail them in as late as Election Day. The board of elections will continue to count them up to seven days after Election Day, as long as they are postmarked on or before Election Day, according to vote.org.

Saturday, Oct. 26, marks the beginning of early voting, which will be offered in East Hampton at Windmill Village on Accabonac Road and in Southampton at the Stony Brook Southampton campus at 39 Tuckahoe Road. Early voting hours will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 26, 27, and 28; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 30; noon to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 3.

Time to Strip, Dip, Freeze

Polar plunges at Main Beach in East Hampton and Beach Lane in Wainscott on New Year’s Day accomplish many things: bracing and exhilarating starts to the year, the company of many hundreds of friends and fellow townspeople, and a chance to secure bragging rights that extend well into 2026. But most important, each serves as a critical fund-raiser for food pantries.

Support Where It’s Most Needed

Soon after moving to Water Mill with her family in 2015, Marit Molin became aware of a largely unacknowledged population underpinning the complicated Hamptons economy. That led her to create Hamptons Community Outreach, which is dedicated to meeting basic critical needs to help break cycles of poverty.
