Wind Farm Gets More Time

Thu, 04/13/2023 - 10:45

The East Hampton Town Board voted last Thursday to extend the time that developers of the South Fork Wind farm have to complete the restoration of Beach Lane in Wainscott, from April 30 to May 22.

Per an easement agreement with the town, the developers were not to conduct restoration or remediation activities between May 1 and Sept. 30 unless the town consented via resolution.

The developers, Orsted and Eversource Energy, recently completed the installation of the wind farm’s export cable through a conduit under the beach and the Beach Lane road end, from which the cable will travel underground to a Long Island Power Authority substation in East Hampton.

Last week, the Department of the Interior announced that the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement had completed a review of the wind farm’s critical design and installation reports, the final regulatory hurdle that clears the way for installation of its foundations and turbines in a lease area around 35 miles off Montauk Point.
