Zeldin to Speak at Republican Convention

Representative Lee Zeldin of New York’s First Congressional District will be a featured speaker at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night. Mr. Zeldin, a staunch ally and defender of President Trump, will deliver an address in prime time. 

A statement from his office said that his address will be positive and about service. It will be delivered from Long Island.

“Honored to be addressing our great nation in prime-time Wednesday night during the @GOPconvention and represent the hardworking people of Long Island as our country approaches the most important election of our lifetime,” Mr. Zeldin wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Mr. Zeldin is one of many speakers on Wednesday. Also scheduled to deliver remarks are Representatives Elise Stefanik and Dan Crenshaw, Senators Marsha Blackburn and Joni Ernst, and Vice President Mike Pence. 

The congressman, who is seeking a fourth term, will face Nancy Goroff, the Democratic Party’s nominee, in the Nov. 3 election. Ms. Goroff is on leave from her position as chairwoman of Stony Brook University’s chemistry department.

Countdown to the Three Mile Harbor Fireworks

The Clamshell Foundation's Great Bonac Fireworks Show over Three Mile Harbor is scheduled for Saturday at 9 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday. Because of the increase in boat traffic expected, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the closure of Three Mile Harbor to shellfishing starting at sunrise on Saturday.
