A Call for Teen Writers

Bay Street Theater and the Sag Harbor Center for the Arts have put out a call for original written works by teens from across the county for Writing the Wave, this year’s New Works Creative Writing Competition. Finalists will have the chance to see their writing read at the Title Wave New Works Festival, held at the theater from May 6 to May 8.

The deadline for submissions of original poetry, songs, monologues, spoken word pieces, rap, or short scenes is April 5. Three finalists will win all-access Title Wave festival passes. The second-place winner also gets a Bay Street Mainstage subscription, and the first-place winner gets a subscription plus a $100 cash prize.

During the festival, finalists can choose to read or perform their own work or have professional stage and screen actors do so.

Inquiries can be directed to Allen O’Reilly, the theater’s director of education and community outreach, at [email protected]. Submissions can be written text in a PDF or doc file or a video link of the work being performed or read. They should be no longer than five pages or five minutes and will be judged on “originality, creativity, and innovative use of language.”
