The East Hampton School District on Tuesday awarded contracts to construction companies for the new bus depot the district is going to build at the former scavenger waste property on Springs-Fireplace Road. According to Mike Guido, the district's architect, the project is on track to come in below its initial budget of $6.6 million for the 10,800-square-foot facility, which includes parking areas for the district's bus fleet, a fueling station, a maintenance barn, and a classroom for a new automotive education program.

Stalco Construction will perform the bulk of the work at a cost of $2.67 million, including several "alternate" features that were originally considered by the district as optional. I.N.S. Heating Services will do the mechanical work for $363,000, Maccarone Plumbing will do the water infrastructure work for $319,300, and Relle Electric Corp. will do the electrical infrastructure work for $377,881.

"All of the contractors are good contractors," Mr. Guido said Tuesday. "It's reasonably under budget, so that's great news. . . . We're hoping to break ground right after the new year."
