The East Hampton Village branch of M&T Bank at 99 Newtown Lane will close permanently next Thursday at 4 p.m. The bank’s branches at 351 Pantigo Road in East Hampton and 746 Montauk Highway in Montauk will remain open.

M&T Bank, founded in 1856 as Manufacturers and Traders Bank, has notified customers of the imminent closing by email and with signs at the branch. Along with the Pantigo Road branch, an email sent to customers on Monday encourages the use of online and mobile banking, directing them to its website at mtb.com, to 800-724-2440 for personal accounts and 800-724-6070 for business accounts, and to the M&T Mobile Banking app, available to download at the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android.

“As our customers’ needs and banking habits evolve, we regularly review the locations of our branches to ensure that we are providing the best service possible,” an M&T Bank spokesman wrote in an email on Tuesday. “At this time, we have decided to close our East Hampton Village branch effective May 15, 2025. We have reallocated our existing staff to our next closest branch located at 351 Pantigo Road and look forward to continuing to serve our East Hampton customers.”

The Newtown Lane building that the bank will vacate is owned by Ben Krupinski Builder, offices of which are on its second floor. The Saunders real estate brokerage is the agent for the commercial space at present occupied by the bank.
