“Consider the Alternative: New Trends in Painting,” a group exhibition that emphasizes painting as an active, evolving process, will open Friday at the Slattery Gallery in Southampton and continue through April 6.
Featuring works by Melanie Delach, Karim Hamid, Nikolina Kovalenko, and John Lark, the show, says the gallery, highlights a range of stylistic and conceptual perspectives, ranging from material experimentation and unconventional mark-making to narrative-driven compositions and hybrid visual forms. Together, the artists engage with themes of perception, identity, memory, and the shifting role of images in a visually saturated culture.
Also on view will be works by Milton Avery, Gerard Byrne, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, KAWS, Man Ray, Pablo Picasso, Kiki Smith, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Andy Warhol.
