Hamptons JazzFest will bring Santi Debriano, a bassist, and his ensemble, Bembé Arktet, to The Church, the Sag Harbor arts center, Friday at 6 p.m., for a program rooted in global jazz traditions.
Mr. Debriano has long been an important voice in the evolution of Latin jazz and contemporary improvisation. With deep roots in Afro-Caribbean music, he has performed with such influential jazzmen as Archie Shepp, Cecil Taylor, Randy Weston, and Hank Jones.
Bembé Arktet fuses traditional Afro-Caribbean and West African rhythmic concepts with contemporary jazz harmony. The word “Bembé” refers to an Afro-Cuban sacred gathering rich with drumming, dancing, and spiritual energy.
Tickets are $30, $25 for members, $15 for ages 8 to 18.
