Keyes Art in TriBeCa

Tue, 04/08/2025 - 14:11
Keyes Art has organized an exhibition of paintings by Mark Heming at the Frederick Hotel in TriBeCa.

Keyes Art in TriBeCa

Keyes Art is taking over TriBeCa Thursday evening, with a performance by the artist and saxophone player Claude Lawrence at the Hardware Gallery, 154 Chambers Street, from 7:30 to 8:30, and the opening of “The Waiter Series,” an exhibition of paintings by Mark Heming, around the corner at the Frederick Hotel, 95 West Broadway, from 6 to 7:30.

Heming was a self-taught and private artist who worked from the late 1940s until his death in 1999. Only his friends and family were aware of his work while he was alive, although it has since been collected privately, according to the gallery.

The faces he painted, drew, and etched are not portraits. He never worked from models or photographs, drawing instead on his memory from his time in New York City and Europe. He was particularly affected by the faces of people he saw standing on bread lines during the Great Depression.

The exhibition will continue through May 15.

Really, really big.
