Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor is hosting Motown Night on Saturday at 7 p.m. The show, a benefit for the Butterfly Effect Project, will feature a performance by That Motown Band, a 50/50 raffle, and a merchandise table with Butterfly Effect goods for sale to benefit the project.

The Butterfly Effect Project’s mission is to create safe spaces for girls of all socio-economic backgrounds to dream while eliminating obstacles by giving them the tools they need to succeed. It was founded to serve girls living in downtown Riverhead and Riverside, two economically depressed areas on the East End, but also serves the towns of Brookhaven, Southold, and Southampton.

The vocalists and musicians of That Motown Band have brought the music of the Motor City to venues in Manhattan, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, as well as closer to home at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center and the Southampton Arts Center.

The audience can expect songs such as “Heat Wave,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Baby Love,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “My Girl,” and other hits from Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Supremes, and the Four Tops.

The band’s lead singer is Garfield Fleming, who spent the 1980s putting together a successful solo career before joining the Grammy Award-winning Delfonics as their baritone and background singer. He toured with the band for the next 25 years before resuming his solo career with a new album in 2017.

The other vocalists are Natasha Nadia, who joined the band in 2015 while continuing to write and perform her own music; Nathina, who brings a background in opera, jazz, and soul to the group, and Kevin Morris, whose own band, Breaking Point, has performed worldwide.

The band’s musical director is Johnny Gale, a Grammy-nominated producer, composer, arranger, vocalist, and guitarist. He has performed and recorded with Cyndi Lauper, Dion, Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love, Phoebe Snow, Joan Osborne, as well as many legendary doo-wop groups. He recently received the East Coast Music Hall of Fame Legend Musician Award.

Tickets are $65 and selling fast.
