The Oldest Profession

National Theatre Live will bring George Bernard Shaw’s “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” from the Garrick Theatre in London, where it was filmed, to Guild Hall on Friday at 7 p.m.

Directed by Dominic Cooke, the play stars Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”), a five-time Olivier Award winner, as Kitty Warren, and Bessie Carter, her real-life daughter (“Bridgerton”), as Vivie Warren, her newly graduated daughter, who reunites with her estranged mother.

Mrs. Warren’s profession is the problem. She has risen from working as a prostitute to become the wealthy owner of a chain of brothels across Europe. Her wealth has provided Vivie many advantages, but the revelation of her livelihood drives a wedge between mother and daughter.

In a Broadway World review of the London production, Alexander Cohen wrote, “Despite the star power and polished performances, it’s Bernard Shaw’s eloquent political prowess that commands the spotlight in this quietly bruising revival.”

Tickets are $20, $18 for members.

Jake Lear and the Kings, with Kevin Foran sitting in on drums, will bring an evening of blues and roots music to Sag Harbor’s Masonic Temple on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 at the door.
