Artist Members Show Returns to Guild Hall

Mon, 10/23/2023 - 15:39
Tracy Jamar, a fiber artist, held up her entry in Guild Hall's 2019 Artist Members Exhibition, which is where Mary Boochever's painting was declared best in show.

Because Guild Hall was closed for renovation last year, the 84th version of its annual Artists Members Exhibition was delayed for some 18 months -- until Sunday, when it will open in conjunction with "Chart of the Inner Warp," a solo show of paintings by Mary Boochever, winner of the exhibition's top prize in 2019.

This year's more than 300 entries will be judged by Virginia Lebermann, the co-founder and board president of Ballroom Marfa, a non-collecting contemporary art museum in rural West Texas. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories, with the winner of the top honor receiving a future one-artist show.

Ms. Boochever, who lives in Sag Harbor, has explored sources as diverse as the Kabala and Goethe's Color Theory in her research and investigations into color systems. In addition to her abstract paintings on canvas and linen, she is a sculptor, using such materials as cooper, steel, wood, glass, plaster, and leather to give form to her color explorations.

A members only reception for both exhibitions will take place on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The shows will remain on view through Jan. 8. Ms. Boochever will lead a workshop on Dec. 12.

This article has been changed from its original and print versions because Ms. Boochever will not be present at a gallery talk on Nov. 10 as originally stated.
