Spring Sports
Spring clinics at the Sportime Arena in Amagansett start this week and will run for eight weeks. Clinics in inline skating for ages 4 to 9 and roller hockey for ages 6 to 12 began on Tuesday, with the former from 5 to 8 p.m. and the latter from 6 to 7 p.m. A soccer clinic for ages 5 to 12 will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. and run for an hour. The cost is $125. There will be no clinics during the April school break.
Lively Libraries
Birds make it look easy, but can you build a nest? At the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor on Sunday, kids 6 to 10 will get to try. A program at 2:30 p.m. will offer a look at various nests, and then kids will use clay, grass, and twigs to make their own.
“Sing,” a 2016 animated film about a koala trying to resurrect a failing theater by holding a singing competition, will be shown on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Montauk Library. A popcorn cart will be on hand, and refreshments will be served.
Student Films
These are the last few days to see the high school portion of Guild Hall’s Student Arts Festival, which will close on Sunday. That afternoon at 5, the museum will screen original videos made by South Fork students in 2nd through 12th grades for its annual student film contest. Videos have been judged by professionals in the East End film and television community. The winning high school entry will be shown at the Hamptons International Film Festival in October.
St. Patrick’s Day Float
Spots may still be available on Camp SoulGrow’s float in Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Montauk. Float preparations will take place tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at SoulGrow’s downtown Montauk studio. Participants will meet up on Sunday at 11 a.m. to march in the 11:30 a.m. parade. Registration is at [email protected].
Chicks and Mermaids
Matthew and Mara Van Fleet will read from their children’s books and sign copies of them on Saturday at 11 a.m. at BookHampton in East Hampton. Mr. Van Fleet will be there with “Dance,” a book for young readers. It is “a laugh-out-loud, jazzy story of a little baby chick who learns how to dance from a friendly band of animals who know all the right moves,” according to the bookshop.
Ms. Van Fleet’s latest is “Three Little Mermaids,” a counting book populated with characters from the deep blue sea. The event is free, but reservations have been requested at bookhampton.com. Copies of the Van Fleets’ books will be available for purchase.
