Cops Bust Burlesque Show at c/o the Maidstone
An Atlantic City woman who goes by the name of Taradise was performing in a Venetian mask "dressed in some type of a feather garment and a black thong," when East Hampton Village police raided the Living Room restaurant at c/o the Maidstone at midnight Saturday, ending a burlesque show that they said was illegal.According to East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen, police learned of the show from a village code enforcement officer who had previously issued the establishment a warning that live performances are in violation of the village's zoning code. The Maidstone advertised the monthly midnight burlesque shows on its Facebook page, as well as in The Star. According to Chief Larsen, the shows were scheduled for the first Saturday of the month. The performance ended when police arrived, the chief said, and one of the two managers present, Jacob Berlin, was charged with three violations of East Hampton Village Code: staging a live performance without a permit, changing the use of a structure under the village's certificate of occupancy law, and failing to heed an official village code enforcement warning. All three violations are punishable by a fine of up to $250 each. Mr. Berlin did not immediately return a call for comment. He will be arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court on the violations at a future date. Tara Bizub, 27, the performer, was not charged.
